The ratification of the Child Labor Convention by the Kingdom of Tonga has led to its universal ratification

On the 4th of August 2020 Ambassador for the Kingdom of Tonga, Titilupe Fanetupouvava’u Tuivakano, formally deposited the ratification instruments with ILO Director-General, Guy Ryder. The Ratification of the convention concerning the Worst Forms of Child Labour by the Kingdom of Tonga, led to its universal ratification. This development is of a great significance for the field of the protection of the rights of the children.

Our Organization, “Hope For Children” CRC Policy Center, applauds the universal ratification of the (ILO) Child Labour Convention, a development, which we consider it to be of a great and historic importance. Every child in the world now enjoys legal protection against the abuse of the worst forms of child labour.

Kingdom of Tonga managed with a big success to abolish Child Labour, a phenomenon that deprives children of their childhood and dignity.

Our Organization congratulates the Kingdom of Tonga, and also appreciates and acknowledges their success, which is for the children’s best interest and works as an extra shield for their rights.

The Convention No. 128 has as a priority to take immediate and effective measures to secure the prohibition and elimination of the worst forms of child labour as a matter of urgency.

The Director-General of Hope For Children, Mr. Joseph Borghese stated:  "Our Organization highlights that we stand by the Kingdom’s Tonga side and we support the efforts they perform having children’s rights at heart and as their priority".
