The Minister of Interior visiting “Home for Hope” of Hope For Children

The Minister of the Interior, Mr. Nikos Nouris paid a visit to the shelter for unaccompanied children “Home For Hope”, operated by "Hope For Children" CRC Policy Center in Nicosia.

Mr Nouris was accompanied by the Director General of the Organization, Mr Joseph Borghese, the Director of Social Welfare Services and legal guardian of unaccompanied children, Ms. Maria Kyratzi, and the Head of the European Funds Unit, Mr. Constantinos Kyprianou, and he was briefed on the personalized services and educational programs offered to the children at the shelter and also on other programmes of the Organization. 

The meeting was also attended by Ms. Irena Georgiadou, Member of the HFC Senior Advisory Board, Ms. Chara Tapanidou, Senior Social Services Officer and administrative staff of the European Funds Unit of the Ministry.

The Minister paid his first visit to the organization’s facilities since he had been appointed as Minister of Interior in December 2019. “Home for Hope” in Nicosia is funded by the Ministry of the Interior specifically by the European Funds Unit, with which Hope For Children recently signed a grant agreement for the co-financing of the project "Open Reception Center for Unaccompanied Minors - Third-Country Nationals" by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (90%) and the  Republic of Cyprus (10%) for the period 17/11/2019 - 16/3/2022.

During the meeting, all attendees discussed about the challenges occurring in the field of support and integration of unaccompanied children, as well as gave suggestions on what would positively contribute to resolving these existing difficulties.

In his statements, the Minister of Interior, Mr. Nouris expressed his compliments to the management and the staff of the Organization for the vital work they do in the field.

Finally, on behalf of “Hope or Children” CRC Policy Center, Mr. Borghese expressed his thanks to the Minister for his interest shown in the work being done to promote and respect the rights of all children, as well as Ms. Kyratzi for her continuous support and cooperation.
